The total industrial output value of China’s pharmaceutical packaging industry accounts for about 8% of the total industrial output value of the country’s packaging industry, with a scale of over 120 billion RMB.
The number of enterprises has reached 2,000, of which only over 100 are flexible packaging enterprises. With the rapid development of China’s economy, the improvement of people’s living standards and the increase in medical expenses caused by the population ageing, the development of new drugs, the reform of the medical security system and the expansion of medical insurance for urban residents, the pharmaceutical industry will continue to grow rapidly.
In addition, the quality of Chinese pharmaceutical packaging materials and packaging varieties are significantly lower than international standards. In developed countries, pharmaceutical packaging accounts for 20 percent of the value of pharmaceutical products, compared with less than 6 percent in China. The period of the 13th five-year plan will be a period of rapid development of China’s pharmaceutical packaging industry.
