Metalized films are with lower barriers but the cost is cheaper.
Not all products need very high barrier properties, knowing your proper needs is the key, and metalized films are not weak as well.
Pouch with an aluminum foil shelf life is 18-24 months, the metalized film is 12-15 months. Shelf life depends on your storage condition as well.
When talking about aluminum foil bags, many people just see the pouch are silver in color so they thought it is aluminum, but actually, they are wrong. Here at Haide, we will tell you the difference between foil and metalized film:
Type: Foil only have Aluminum foil(AL), but the metalized film has PETAL, CPPAL, BOPPAL different option.
There also have NY-AL and PLA-AL metalized film, and some more others, but didn’t use in China and it is not that common use.
Surface: AL foils are one side matte and one side slightly shiny look, Metalized film is both side way shinier than AL.
Foldability: When AL foil is folded it will be not easy to return back to normal, but Metalized films are foldable and can be returned back to normal easier.
Thickness: AL has 7 and 9 microns versions, in China we normally use 7 microns.
Metalized film has PETAL 12 microns, CPPAL has 25 microns, 30 microns, BOPPAL has 20 microns.
Tear property: AL is very simple to tear apart without lamination; Metalized films are not easy to tear even without lamination.
Temperature: AL can withstand very high temperatures but metalized films are not.
Barrier: AL is with much higher barrier than Metalized film.
Cost: AL is high cost, Metalized film is cheap.
AL is pure aluminum but the metalized film is with an aluminum coating on film, not pure aluminum.
Also, AL can not see through, but metalized are still can see through when you put the film below strong lights.
